My Friends Suck

I wonder how many of my friends shared, contributed to, or participated in the ice bucket challenge when the probably don't even know anyone with ALS,  but haven't taken a few minutes to even look at the Narcolepsy petition. I suppose I need to have some celebrity pushing it, or some half naked men and women promoting it to get people's attention.  I guess it isn't a legitimate enough cause because there isn't some star athlete saying he has it, or knows someone with it. Maybe most people just don't really believe it is a serious  or debilitating illness and I am pushing the issue because, well, I have nothing better to do with my damned time. Maybe the veteran's who have been dismissed without benefits,  the families who have lost careers and homes, the mother's and fathers who have lost families over this don't warrant the same compassion because Narcolepsy is just that disease that makes you sleep, instead of a neurological condition /autoimmune disease that affects everything from cognitive functioning to metabolism, to body temp regulation, to sleep. Since this is neurological, there are a host of other issues as well. I understand though. Just understand when I decline to give a crap about anything you may want me to be supportive of.

Today I was reading an article that a very special person took the time out of her life for. She took the time to let strangers see what it is like for her everyday living with Narcolepsy. I Will Not Apologize

People get upset when I say that they can't possibly understand what it is like to live with a chronic illness unless you share that illness. They don't always understand that reading about and researching it isn't the same as living it. People don't understand that Narcolepsy and Cataplexy are a part of me and and they dictate, not me, a lot of my responses. I can see how it might be hard to understand that I am not brushing off or ignoring situations because I don't respond the way I should. I get that it is hard to comprehend that my seemingly lack if emotion is a necessity for me to make it through. It is as automatic to me as breathing and it us NOT going to change. Narcolepsy is an awful illness but coupled with Cataplexy, it can be almost unbearable if you don't make some unnatural adjustments. I can't show you what it feels like. A More Humanistic View: Jada Pinkett ith

If you take the celebrity status out of the equation and view it from a more humanistic point, it really becomes less of a punchline. People see an actress trying to sell her book. I see a woman who possibly just wants to be understood. Everyone has made her out to be this bad person without really knowing the full dynamics of their relationship. I think a good portion of it might even be a result of trauma bonding. I know we are tired, but I think Bluecentric gives really good insight and makes some very valid points. I would hope most people bashing Jada would really listen and at least gain maybe just a bit more empathy. I might just be a little too idealistic though.
